Teatr Wielki [Grand Theatre]

Teatr Wielki Opera [Grand Theatre Opera] in Poznań is a glorious successor of excellent tradition which dates back to 1783 when the Wojciech Bogusławski group run first performances at the courtyard of the former Jesuit College. The construction of the building whose neoclassical facade can be admired in the present location was started in 1909 according to the design by the Munich architect Max Littmann. In August 1919 during the ceremony of the theatre takeover by the Polish authorities the first performance, Halka by Stanisław Moniuszko, was staged.
Today, the repertoire of Teatr Wielki in Poznań includes an extraordinary variety of stage forms from giant productions of Polish and world opera and ballet classics to small musical forms presented on the new Wojciech Drabowicz chamber stage. Every year contemporary compositions and brilliant opera debuts appear in the repertoire.
The Poznań stage performances due to the great care for the high level of rendition, presence of exceptional voices and wonderful visual frame generate great interest and beat attendance records. So it is worth remembering about an option to park easy a car, in particular, an option to reserve on-line a parking space for a day on which the performance is staged.
