Teatr Polski [Polish Theatre] is the oldest Poznań theatre, opened in 1875. The building, erected in 1873-1875, then, modernised in1929, survived the World War II almost intact. The repertoire initially addressed to the richer landowners and intellectuals was pauperised over time and kontusz comedies and moralistic vaudevilles gained recognition among bourgeois audience.
Today, Teatr Polski includes four stages presenting the contemporary face of theatre. Interesting projects, including, inter alia, the International Festival of Repertoire Theatres “Close Strangers” or the Nationwide Modern Polish Drama Competition “Metaphors of Reality” draw the attention of the theatregoers.
The viewers coming to the theatre by car can leave their vehicles in the near underground car park under Wolności Square.
