The goats, goring every day at noon on the town hall tower, are the most famous tourist attraction of Poznań Stary Rynek [Old Market]. A clock with an unusual “comic element”, as it was called at that time, was installed in 1551. The present mechanism dates from the end of the 20th century.
A legend is connected with the presence of the goats on the top of the building, saying that the goats run away to the tower from the town hall kitchen where they were to substitute deer haunch burned through inattention.
The fighting goats are a symbol of Poznań and surely it is worth seeing how at noon they are leaning out of the tower. It is preferable to park a car nearby, e.g. in the underground car park under Wolności Square because motor-vehicle traffic is banned within Stary Rynek [Old Market].
