Biblioteka Raczyńskich [Raczyński Library]

Biblioteka Raczyńskich [Raczyński Library] is one of the oldest existing public libraries in Poland. It was founded by Edward Raczyński in 1829. Already at that time, he understood that “each person without difference” should have access to knowledge. Today, this institution not only collects library holdings but also conducts museums connected with authors of literary works (Henryk Sienkiewicz, Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna, Józef Ignacy Kraszewski) and organises cultural events.
For many years, the main seat of the library was located in the building of the former school at Święty Marcin Street, however, in 2013 it was moved to the new building at Wolności Square, near the underground car park.
